Songs That Make My Brainwaves Go WOOOOOO

I don’t care what Schweickert says. I’m not taking an easy route in writing this week. I thought this out, nice and in order; My Top 10 Favorite Songs. It’s a mix of everything, and I think it’s pretty solid. Okay, here we go.

#10 “Just What I Needed” by The Cars

“And I don’t mind you comin’ here and wastin’ all my time”

This is the sweetest song you’ll ever hear. It’s a catchy song and it really gets stuck in your head. Benjamin Orr is the man singing about how he loves the girl in the song so much that he doesn’t care that she’s always hanging around him and making him waste his time. It was released on March 28, 1978. It was the band’s first big hit and stayed on the charts for almost two years.

#9 “Lithium” by Nirvana

“I like it, I’m not gonna crack”

This is my favorite Nirvana song, by far. It’s somewhat basic and common, but I guess there’s a reason a lot of people like it. Kurt Cobain wrote the song as a reflection of manic depression. This is shown through the constant switching of lines in the song that convert from happy to said like the quote I put. The song is off their Nevermind album, which is one of the most famous albums of all time that controversially surfaced because of the baby on the cover suing the band. He claimed the picture of him on the cover is child pornography and wanted compensation. It didn’t get him anywhere, considering the fact he has the album’s name tattooed on his chest. But, that doesn’t matter; the cover is iconic and I don’t think it’ll change.

#8 “Diet Mountain Dew” by Lana Del Rey

“Baby put on heart-shaped sunglasses ’cause we gonna take a ride”

This is a chill, slow, summery song. In it, she is going back and forth between knowing the man isn’t good for her and will do her damage and still wanting to be with him. She wonders if they’ll be in love forever. This is off Lana’s first album and was released June 13, 2011. I just love this song so much.

#7 “Nights On Broadway” by Bee Gees

“But that won’t stop my loving you. I can’t stay away”

Yeah. I have a disco song on the same list as Lana Del Rey, but I don’t care. Released in June of 1975, this song isn’t necessarily a happy song, but it’s not a sad song either. It isn’t like their typical disco songs. From what I interpreted of the song, he is so infatuated with the girl that he can’t stay away from her, but he’s blaming the craziness on the city. In parts of the song, they sing about the distance between them, but they blame it on the nights on broadway.

#6 “Dance The Night Way” by Van Halen

“Ooh, baby, baby, Come on, take a chance, you’re old enough to dance the night away”

Just as the title says, this song just makes you want to jump around and dance. Written by Eddie Van Halen, the song was one of the most popular of their second album, Van Halen II. It has been used in many movies and shows because it captures the transition between the 70s and the upcoming 80s rock wave. The song isn’t specifically about anything in particular, but it is a happy and cute song, nevertheless.

#5 “Wild Side” by Mötley Crüe

“Our Father, who ain’t in heaven, Be Thy name on the wild side”

Never short of controversy, Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx wrote this song in spite of MTV. Mötley Crüe had always been in the headlines on MTV since their second album, Shout At The Devil, due to the rumors that they were Satanists. MTV continued to claim that the members of Mötley Crüe were devil-worshippers, so this song was their jab back at them. Though not true, they saw the opportunity to take a jab at MTV and the viewers and they did it. The song is just a typical 80s rock song. It’s true Mötley Crüe fashion.

#4 “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac

“And if you don’t love me now, you will never love me again. I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain”

This song is on Rumors, one of the best albums of all time. Lyrics by Stevie Nicks, the song was written when the band was on the verge of breaking up because of scandals, cheating, and lying. The song is undeniably a break-up song that sounds like they are attacking each other with lyrics, but there’s underlying love in the words too. It’s painful and it expresses a lot of emotion.

#3 “Two Of Us” by The Beatles

“You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead”

I love this song so much. It’s so sweet, and it’s just perfect. Paul McCartney wrote this song for his girlfriend and it’s about their little adventures together. It’s their first song on the Let It Be album, which was released in 1970 but recorded the year before. I think this song is severely underrated and probably is one of the best in their discography. It’s just so perfect.

#2 “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band

“Abra abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab ya”

I don’t have any other way of describing this song other than “cool”. It has a smooth vibe to it. The song, off the album of the same name, was written by Steve Miller and released in 1982. It took Miller about 2 years to fully complete the song because he said that he couldn’t find the right words to match the tune he had recorded first. In the end, I think he found the perfect words and made a phenomenal song.

#1 “One Of These Nights” by Eagles

“I’ve been searching for the daughter of the devil himself; I’ve been searching for an angel in white.

I’ve been waiting for a woman who’s a little of both, and I can feel her, but she’s nowhere in sight”

Last but definitely not least, my favorite song of all time. Written by Don Henley and Glenn Fry, this song hit number one in the summer of 1975. They have said the song is about hoping that one day, a person will find you one day instead of you trying to pursue someone for a change. When I saw the Eagles in concert and they started playing this song, it became an automatic core memory. I still remember when they started the bass riff, and I just started screaming. This song holds a special place in my heart. It’s my most listened-to song on Spotify and has been for the last two years. For real,  I listen to it religiously, and I don’t think it’ll ever lose its number one spot on my list. I obviously have a favorite genre of music, and I usually stick to it. Here’s the link to the Spotify playlist I made with these songs on it. Take a listen to it and let me know what you think! https://tinyurl.com/jn89k3ec
