Each month, the Heritage Herald will focus on an extended curriculum student for our series “Student Spotlight!” This month, we interviewed Daisy, a senior!
This series aims to bring more visibility to people with disabilities in our school. Often, people with disabilities are hidden in literature and academia. When people are included in writing and social activities, it helps deliver a sense of belonging and can enhance the productivity and enjoyment of the group as a whole! If you read about someone you’d like to be friends with, and they’re comfortable with it, try to talk to them! Without further ado, here’s the interview!
- What is your name?
Daisy!
- How old are you?
Twenty years old.
- How would you describe Daisy?
She’s artistic (good at drawing and very musical) fashionable, caring, happy, friendly, and “cuddly,” (she really likes hugs!)
- How have classes been the past few weeks?
Cooking days have been fun, as well as dancing and PE. She also loves going to the media center! Daisy’s teachers say she makes very good choices, even when sometimes she doesn’t want to. She recently took senior pictures, which was also exciting. She got to talk with a lot of people!
- What is Daisy’s favorite game?
She doesn’t have a favorite game, but the closest one is probably UNO!
- What are Daisy’s hobbies?
She goes to Miracles in Motion, which is a dance company. It’s mostly jazz and ballet, though she does some lyrical too. She’s an incredible dancer! One time she tried to help a girl in a wheelchair with dancing, but it was a little hard. She has a dance teacher, and her name is Ms. Katie. She is very patient and helpful.
Going on YouTube and listening to music is another hobby of hers! She says music is very calming. Her favorite artists are Justin Beiber and Carrie Underwood! She also loves Jennifer Lopez and The Beatles. The soundtrack for High School Musical and Glee are awesome. She loves Ariana Grande (but she’s not so sure about Sam and Cat,) and Meghan Trainor also has some great tunes! She just started listening to indie rock! She thinks “505” by Arctic Monkeys is a great song!
She’s also getting a Dalmatian! She’s ecstatic about it and excited to take care of the dog!
- What’s Daisy’s favorite Disney movie?
Her favorite movie is High School Musical.
- If you were an animal or plant, what kind of animal or plant would you be and why?
A cat!
- If Daisy could go anywhere in the world, where would she go?
She’d go anywhere. Wherever she went, she would probably just want to have fun.
- What is your favorite song?
Any song from High School Musical!
Daisy is such an awesome student. She comes in my room and greets us with her beautiful smile and kind words every morning. She does deserve this spotlight.
