Justin Bieber is a well-known name. One of the most famous people in the world and one of the most successful artists in music. He’s broken several records and won numerous awards. He is one of the most recognized people in the pop music industry, yet he’s widely unliked. How does one kid go from being the dream guy of every girl across America to one of the most hated celebrities of the century, but still manage to have a huge fan base? Let’s start at the very beginning.
On March 1, 1994, Justin Drew Bieber was born in London, Canada to nineteen-year-old Patricia Lynn “Pattie” Mallette and Jeremy Jack Bieber, who never got married. As a young child, Justin always had an interest in music. His mother recognized his musical talent and started a YouTube channel for him to express his gift. In 2008, Scooter Braun, a talent manager discovered him accidentally from his YouTube videos. After Braun became his manager, they flew to Atlanta to meet Usher, who was competing with Justin Timberlake to have Bieber sign a record deal. Usher won the feud, resulting in Justin Bieber signing with Island Def Jam Recordings, which lead to Bieber becoming a world-renowned superstar.
Justin released his first song, “One Time”, and it almost immediately hit the top of the charts. In its first week, it reached number 12 on the Canadian Hot 100 and soon after, number 17 in America. Growing in popularity, fans started demanding more, so he released his first album, My World 2.0. A week before his debut album was released, he announced his first tour, and fans went crazy. Teenage girls were lined up around cities to go to his concerts. They were buying posters and cardboard cutouts to decorate their rooms. Many people say that he was the biggest thing since The Beatles, which is a bold claim, as The Beatles were one of the most famous groups in all of the history music, and are still thought of today as such. His stardom just continued to grow as he came out with more songs and went on more tours and made more teen girl’s hearts melt. Justin’s fame came so fast at such a young age, it couldn’t go on forever…could it? Many people were skeptical. Sure the kid had talent, but being a celebrity is not an easy lifestyle, and people believed that it had to go downhill at some point, and they were right.
When a lot of people think of Justin Bieber, they think of his reckless behavior. They think of him picking fights with haters, drinking and driving, egging houses, and drug addictions. While none of this is excused, no one is seeing the whole picture. Justin is not a bad person in the least, he just never had a childhood. He didn’t have the space to make the little mistakes that a regular 14-year-old makes. He never had time to mature. He was practically thrown into adulthood as a 15-year-old. This caused him to make some very poor decisions, like smoking weed and driving under the influence. After being arrested several times, Justin went under the radar for about five years. He stopped writing songs and going on tours. During this time, he lost a lot of fans and became less known and less thought about, but this wasn’t the end of his career. He started to make his come back in the summer of 2019, making a remix of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito”.
His Come Back
After the remix release of “Despacito,” people began to realize how much they missed him. Beliebers started to demand new music. People started following his every move, but then he went underground again, which made people even more attached. He started having problems with stalkers again. He needed higher security and every time he went in public he was practically attacked by paparazzi. This became an even bigger problem when he announced his relationship with who is now his wife, Hailey Baldwin. Soon after the relationship went public, however, he began doing more collaborations, the biggest one being “10,000 Hours” with Dan+Shay.
After doing many collaborations, Justin finally released his own single. Fans all over the world were anxiously awaiting the release of the song. But then it came out, and it was not all that it was talked up to be. It was actually one of the worst songs that he has made, and somehow it got worse. He started promoting it. He was constantly tweeting about it and it turned into a desperate attempt to make his song seem better than it was, so when he announced that he was going to make an album, fans were wary. Although his single was a letdown, his album wasn’t as bad. He has better albums, for sure, but for his first one in his comeback, it wasn’t too awful.
Beliebers hope that this isn’t the end of his comeback, but they also hope that his music becomes less forced and more in the current style of pop music.
