Thrift Shop Finds

By: Cami Swafford

Have you ever felt like you really need a new outfit, but don’t have the funds to buy one? Or the type of clothes you want aren’t available at most stores? Well I’ve got some good news for you–thrift and consignment stores offer a wide variety of clothes at low costs! Kara Haselton and I were curious to see what styles we could find, so last week we ventured to the Goodwill in search of interesting outfits that you can’t find anywhere else. Here are a few of the looks we found:

The Grandparents:

If you want to show your soft side, or for some odd reason want to look like a grandma or grandpa, you can find a ton of outfit opportunities. For those of you who dig the grandpa look, there are many large sweaters, like the one photographed here, for only $3.99 at Goodwill. Typically, these sweaters come with a variety of unique patterns and are so comfy, you can’t help but buy them. If the grandma look is more your style, sweaters are also $3.99 and, you guessed it, blouses are $3.99.

‘90s Kids:

Styles from the ‘90s are becoming increasingly popular again. If you want to join in on the fun, but don’t have enough money to buy overpriced clothing items, Goodwill is the place to go. Or if it’s your school’s spirit week and you have no idea what to wear for Throwback Thursday, Goodwill’s got you covered. With jackets priced at $4.99, you, too, can claim to be a 90s kid at a low cost!

The Stranger in the Alley:

If you are channeling your inner John Bender from the Breakfast Club or just want to look like someone you would meet in a dark alley, you can snag a leather trenchcoat for around $10. Trenchcoats aren’t really in style at the moment, but don’t let that stop you because you never know when one might be needed.

The Kindergarten Teacher:

We all remember our very first teacher. The person who taught us how to read and write. The teacher that started our education. Experience a blast from the past by dressing as your favorite kindergarten teacher with dresses such as these, which were only $4.99 each.

The Bride:

If you are getting hitched but don’t have the funds to buy a dress that is a couple thousand dollars, you can find a wedding dress at the Goodwill for only $14.99! This often times even includes a vail at no extra cost. If you aren’t getting married, there’s no need to fear, you can still get a wedding dress because, hey it’s a free country. You could even buy a wedding dress for Halloween and become a haunted bride at a lower cost than most costumes.

The Tourist:

Summer may be over, but you can still channel your inner tourist with the Hawaiian shirts that are at Goodwill for the low price of $3.99 or a tropical dress for $4.99! With these items, you can plan a staycation in your hometown, pretend to be a tourist, and for a moment forget that cold days are fast approaching.

Save the Bees:

You could also show that you support the bees, because why not? #savethebees.

As you can see, there are so many different and unique styles behind the doors of Goodwill. You can find almost anything if you are willing to search for it. And remember whatever it is you buy, no matter how quirky or weird it may seem, you can rock it!
