Husky Soccer vol. XIX: Huskies Look to Boost Cap-8 Finish

By: Chris Long

Introduction

As the Husky soccer regular season begins to wind down, the Huskies find themselves in a favorable spot. With two regular season games remaining, the Huskies are still in the running for a regular season Cap-8 championship. Thanks to the Wakefield win against Broughton on Thursday night, the Huskies are still alive for the Cap-8 championship. In order to capture they will need help from Enloe (who plays Broughton tonight), and will need to win the final two matches of the season, tonight against Wakefield and Thursday night at Broughton. They will also need help from Millbrook and Wakefield in order to down Leesville. Tonight, the Huskies forget about all that and focus on their senior night opponent: Wakefield. The Huskies enter the match after a very hard fought overtime tie at Millbrook on Wednesday night. Logan Shytle was able to finally beat the Millbrook goalkeeper with less than 8 minutes to go, however than 4 minutes later a corner kick went off of Cooper Green and into the net forcing overtime. Six days of rest later, the Huskies take on a tough opponent in the Wakefield Wolverines.

About Wakefield

Last year, Wakefield made the state playoffs for the first time since 2010, and this year they are looking to continue the streak. Tonight’s game at Heritage is a must win game as far as playoffs are concerned. As for the rest of the season, Wakefield brings in a 6-9-2 overall record, 5-6-1 in the Cap-8. The Wolverines come into Heritage off of possibly their biggest win of the season Thursday night against Broughton. They were able to fend off the Caps by a score of 3-2, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Tonight, Wakefield comes into Heritage looking to break the streak of five straight losses to Heritage.

History vs. Wakefield

The Huskies are 5-0 in the past 3 years against Wakefield, including a very close 1-0 win on September 30th this season.

Discussion

Biggest Question

Will Wakefield stop Logan Shytle? In the last contest against Wakefield the Wolverines did a very nice job at containing Shytle. That turned out to put them in contention at the end. If they do that again tonight they have a shot at the Huskies. However, if they leave Shytle free; watch out!

Player To Watch

Cooper Green. On his Senior Night, look for Heritage goalkeeper Cooper Green to play extra well against the Wolverines.

Prediction

Heritage 2, Wakefield 1. It’ll be another close one, similar to the first meeting, but the Huskies will be able to prevail on senior night.
