Husky Soccer vol. XVIII: Heritage Looks for 10th Win

By: Chris Long

The Jekyll and Hyde season continues for Husky soccer. As the team enters the home stretch they seem to be on the cusp of another upward climb. After losing the first two games in Cap 8 play the Huskies tore off 5 straight wins. In that span they outscored opponents 21-6 including a 6-2 route of Millbrook. Next, the Huskies dropped 2 games in a row against Leesville and Sanderson, then tied Enloe. Most recently the Huskies’ offense exploded for 10 goals in a 10-2 defeat of the Cougars. In that game a variety of players, 7 in fact, scored to drive the score up. Now, the Huskies look to improve their position going into the playoffs with a few more wins against quality Cap 8 opponents. That starts tonight against Millbrook.

About Millbrook

Millbrook High School, located in North Raleigh, has always had a very strong athletic program. The Wildcats are usually major players in every major sport, including Men’s Soccer. Despite the history, it would appear that this is a bit of a down year for them. Currently, the Wildcats sit with a 7-6-4 overall record and are 4-5-2 in the Cap 8, which places them 5th in the conference, just below Heritage. They come back home to take on the Huskies after defeating Wakefield 2-1 on Monday night. Millbrook is in crunch time in terms of a playoff push and they need a win tonight to keep their playoff hopes alive.

History vs. Millbrook

The Huskies are 4-0-1 in the past 3 years against Millbrook, including a 6-2 win on September 28th this season.

Biggest Question

Will the Huskies take advantage of penalty and free kicks? Over the past few games the Huskies have had many opportunities to put the game out of contention. If they can take advantage of these opportunities, they can put this game against Millbrook in the record books.

Player To Watch

Caleb Bratager. Bratager has been coming into his own in the past few games, look for him to have another good game tonight against Millbrook.

Heritage 4, Millbrook 1. The Huskies will ride their massive win against Wake Forest to Millbrook and will take care of business against the Wildcats.
